PRESS RELEASE

New Distance Learning Company, TutorBug.com Now Seeking Active & Retired Teachers for Online Tutoring Service

Wiscasset, Maine (PRWEB) Mar. 23, 2005-PowerGate Applied Learning Systems (P.A.L.S.) announced it is building a network of 2000 teachers who desire to work from home tutoring individuals and teaching online classes. Lessons are taught on www.TutorBug.com , P.A.L.S.'s Virtual Classroom Network consisting of 200 Virtual Classrooms. Teachers can tutor students live in a one-on-one Virtual Classroom setting or in large group sessions over P.A.L.S.'s video conferencing system.

Current market for tutoring services is two billion dollars. This figure could double! That’s how much additional revenue some tutoring providers say could be up for grabs in the new federally funded marketplace. Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, supplemental educational services are funded by school districts with a portion of their allocation from the U.S. Department of Education.

The Federal Government allocates as much as $1800 per eligible student, but so far, less than 10 percent of eligible students are electing to participate, according to providers’ estimates.

One of the toughest challenges is simply convincing parents that the service is free to them. Parents will often hang up when sales reps for tutoring firms call to explain the program. They think it is a scam because "free" usually means too good to be true. And sometimes parents simply don’t want to acknowledge that their child needs help. Parents have been known to ask "What's wrong with my child that he needs to be tutored?"

In spite of these challenges, TutorBug company C.E.O. David Davies expects his online tutoring firm to grow at an unprecedented rate. Tutoring services, known in the law as “supplemental services,” arguably represent the federal government’s largest free-market experiment in education. Mr. Davies said his firm is ideally positioned to take advantage of the new demand for online tutoring services.

Teachers that qualify can join the P.A.L.S. network and choose from tutoring assignments posted on the site's Tutor Board by independent franchisees. Teachers  can create entire course plans using P.A.L.S. state of the art Lesson Pro Course Authorizing Software. As a course creator, teachers earn royalties on courses sold to their students, as well as earn up to $250.00 an hour teaching classes like the SAT exam prep course. Each TutorBug Virtual Classroom can accommodate up to 500 students. With the capacity to teach up to 100,000 students simultaneously, P.A.L.S. is poised for rapid growth.

P.A.L.S. is currently offering their Learning Management System and network of 200 Virtual Classrooms to private and public schools under a revenue sharing plan. The focus is not on teaching classes but on providing remedial course work and one-on-one tutoring for existing classes.

Company founder, David Davies said "TutorBug provides qualified teachers with the opportunity to author powerful, multimedia courses and present them to an unlimited worldwide audience from the comfort of their home. The only requirement is a web cam, microphone and we recommend a broadband connection to the Internet."
